About Our Studio & Your Safety

Q: What makes Platinum Point different from other piercing studios in Auckland?

A: At Platinum Point, your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of hygiene and professionalism. We use only implant-grade titanium jewellery, rigorously validated by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), ensuring superior quality and biocompatibility. Our studio operates on a fully disposable basis, and all jewellery is sterilised in a benchtop cassette autoclave, with daily testing to guarantee complete sterilisation. We work exclusively with brands verified by the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), guaranteeing safe and suitable materials for your new piercing.

Q: What kind of jewellery materials do you use?

A: We exclusively use implant-grade titanium and steel (ASTM F-136 & ASTM F-138), which is the safest and most biocompatible material for initial piercings. Unlike some studios that may use untested titanium or lower-grade materials, we prioritise your long-term health and healing. All our jewellery is verified by the Association of Professional Piercers (APP) for quality and safety.

Q: How do you ensure your studio is sterile?

A: We pride ourselves on our meticulous sterilisation practices. Our studio is fully disposable, meaning we use single-use needles and tools for every piercing. All jewellery is sterilised on-site in a state-of-the-art benchtop cassette autoclave, and we perform daily biological indicator tests to confirm complete sterilisation. Your health and safety are non-negotiable.

Q: Are your piercers certified or experienced?

A: Our professional piercers are highly trained and experienced, adhering to the best practices set by the Association of Professional Piercers (APP) and Australasian Association of Professional Piercers (AuPP) . We regularly update our knowledge and techniques to provide you with the safest and most comfortable piercing experience possible.

Q: Do you cater to latex allergies?

A: Yes, we are fully equipped to accommodate clients with latex allergies as we do not use latex in the studio. Please inform your piercer of any allergies during your consultation, and we will ensure all necessary precautions are taken.

Before Your Piercing

Q: What is the minimum age for a piercing at Platinum Point?

A: Our age requirements vary depending on the piercing type and are strictly enforced in accordance with New Zealand law. Generally, minors require parental consent and identification from both the minor and the parent/legal guardian. Please contact us directly or refer to our booking page for specific age restrictions on different piercings.

Q: Do I need to book an appointment, or can I walk in?

A: We highly recommend booking an appointment to ensure you get your desired time slot and to minimise wait times. While we do accept walk-ins when available, appointments are prioritised. You can easily book online through our website.

Q: What should I do to prepare for my piercing appointment?

A: Before your appointment, ensure you've had a good meal, are well-hydrated, and have avoided alcohol or excessive caffeine. Bring a valid photo ID. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the piercing area.

Q: Can I bring a friend or family member with me to my appointment?

A: Yes, you are welcome to bring a friend or family member for support. However, for hygiene and safety reasons, we may have limits on how many people can be in the piercing room during the procedure. Please discuss this with our staff if you plan to bring multiple people.

Your Piercing Experience

Q: How much does a piercing hurt?

A: Pain tolerance varies greatly from person to person. Most piercings cause a brief, sharp pinch, followed by a dull ache or throbbing sensation. Our experienced piercers use quick, precise techniques to minimise discomfort. We strive to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Q: How long does a piercing take?

A: The actual piercing process itself is very quick, usually lasting only a few seconds. However, your appointment will include a consultation, paperwork, jewellery selection, marking the placement, and aftercare instructions, so please allow adequate time for the entire process.

Aftercare & Healing

Q: How do I clean my new piercing?

A: We provide comprehensive aftercare instructions after your piercing. The primary method involves using sterile saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride) to gently clean the piercing twice a day. We will demonstrate the correct technique to ensure optimal healing. Avoid using harsh chemicals, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide.

Q: How long does a piercing take to heal?

A: Healing times vary significantly depending on the piercing location, individual body chemistry, and adherence to aftercare. Earlobes might heal in 6-8 weeks, while cartilage piercings (like helix or industrial) can take 6-12 months or even longer. Your piercer will give you an estimated healing time for your specific piercing.

Q: Do you offer free check-ups for my piercing?

A: Absolutely! We offer complimentary check-ups for all piercings done at Platinum Point. We encourage you to visit us if you have any concerns or just want us to assess your healing progress. This service is part of our commitment to your well-being.

Q: What should I do if I think my piercing is infected?

A: If you suspect an infection (signs include excessive redness, swelling, heat, pus, or persistent pain), please contact us immediately. Do NOT remove the jewellery yourself, as this can trap the infection. We can assess the situation and advise on the best course of action, which may include recommending a visit to your GP.

Q: When is it safe to remove my jewellery?

A: You should only remove your initial jewellery once your piercing is fully healed, and ideally, we recommend waiting until the full estimated healing time has passed. Removing jewellery too early can lead to the piercing closing up, migration, or complications. We're happy to assist you with jewellery changes once your piercing is ready.

Jewellery

Q: Can I bring my own jewellery for a new piercing?

A: For initial piercings, we require the use of our implant-grade, sterile jewellery to ensure safety, biocompatibility, and proper healing. This guarantees that the material and design are suitable for a fresh wound.

Q: When can I change my jewellery?

A: You should only change your jewellery once the initial healing period is complete and the piercing is stable. For most piercings, this involves a "downsize" of the post length around 4-8 weeks to prevent irritation, followed by a full jewellery change much later. We recommend coming in for a professional jewellery change or downsize to ensure it's done safely and correctly.

Q: Do you sell jewellery for healed piercings?

A: Yes! We have a beautiful selection of high-quality, body-safe jewellery for healed piercings, including implant-grade titanium, gold, and decorative pieces. Visit our studio to browse our collection and find something unique for your style.
