Lip Piercing FAQ (Labret, Side Lip)

  • Q: How painful are Lip piercings?
The lip tissue is soft, so the piercing itself is quick (3/10). The main discomfort comes from the significant swelling that occurs over the first few days.

  • Q: When do I need to downsize the post?
You MUST return to Platinum Point Piercings for a shorter jewelry post (downsize) within 1-2 weeks. The initial long post is necessary for swelling, but keeping it too long can damage your teeth and gums.

  • Q: Can I smoke or vape while it's healing?
Smoking and vaping should be avoided completely. If you must, rinse your mouth thoroughly with alcohol-free mouthwash or plain cold water immediately afterward to flush toxins and bacteria.

  • Q: Will the piercing damage my teeth or gums?
The risk is minimised by ensuring the piercing is placed correctly and that you get the essential downsize at the correct time. We only use flat-back labrets inside the mouth to reduce contact.

Lip Piercing Aftercare (Labret, Side Lip)

Average Healing Time: 6–10 weeks (Exterior), 2–4 weeks (Interior).

Exterior Cleaning: Follow the Universal Cleaning Instructions (Saline or Water Rinse) twice daily.

Interior Cleaning (Oral Rinse): Rinse your mouth for 30 seconds with alcohol-free mouthwash or plain cold water after eating, drinking (anything other than water), and smoking/vaping.

Specific Care: Downsizing: You must return to Platinum Point within 1-2 weeks for a crucial jewelry downsize (shorter post) to prevent gum and tooth irritation.

What to Avoid:

Avoid hot, spicy, crunchy, or acidic foods initially.

Minimize excessive talking or playing with the jewelry.

Avoid oral contact, including kissing, during the healing period.
