Meet the
piercers
Thomas Manning and Kat Thurlow. A pharmaceutical-grade clinical standard and New Zealand's largest BVLA collection. Done properly, every time.
Most piercing studios exist because piercing is popular. Platinum Point exists because we think the work deserves better than that. Clinical protocols. Implant-grade jewellery. Piercers with a background that goes further than weekend training.
Thomas Manning
Thomas trained and worked as a Clinical Trials Aseptic Pharmacy Technician in hospital settings, a role built on pharmaceutical-grade sterilisation.
He moved into piercing because he saw a gap between what the industry offered and what the work deserved. Every protocol at Platinum Point is drawn from clinical practice. Every piece of jewellery meets implant-grade standards.
He founded New Zealand's only exclusive BVLA studio, with one of the largest ranges in the country. Clients come from Wellington, Christchurch, and Sydney for BVLA consultations.

Kat Thurlow
Kat is a specialist piercer trained to the same clinical standards as the rest of the studio. Her approach is calm and patient, particularly with clients who are nervous or coming in for the first time.
She takes time to understand what a client is actually after, not just the placement they're asking for but the ear they're building. Sessions feel personal.
Kat is fluent in Taiwanese Mandarin and conversational in Mandarin. Mandarin-speaking clients receive the same consultation, anatomy assessment, and aftercare in their own language.
- —Trained to Platinum Point's pharmaceutical-grade clinical standard
- —Advanced piercing training
- —Fluent in Taiwanese Mandarin
- —Conversational Mandarin
"The standard I hold myself to isn't defined by what the industry requires. It's defined by what the work requires."— Thomas Manning, Head Piercer
What we stand for
Parnell, Auckland
389 Parnell Road sits among galleries, architect-designed spaces, and businesses that take their work seriously. It felt like the right address.
The studio is small on purpose. No waiting room, no walk-in traffic. A treatment room, a sterilisation area, and a piercer with nowhere else to be.
Book an appointmentAbout us
Are you walk-in or appointment only?
Appointment only, always. Each client gets the studio to themselves.
What's Thomas's background before piercing?
Thomas trained and worked as a Clinical Trials Aseptic Pharmacy Technician in hospital settings, a role built on pharmaceutical-grade sterilisation. He carried that discipline directly into piercing. It's why Platinum Point's protocols look different from a standard studio: they were built from clinical medicine, not the piercing industry.
Do you pierce children?
Yes, earlobe piercings for children, using the same needle technique and implant-grade titanium as every other service. We never use stud guns. A parent or guardian must be present, and we take the time to make the experience calm and comfortable for the child.
Can I request a specific piercer?
Yes. Thomas works Wednesday through Sunday; Kat works Sunday and Monday. If you have a preference, whether for availability, language (Kat is fluent in Taiwanese Mandarin), or any other reason, book accordingly.
I haven't had a piercing in years — will I feel out of place?
No. Most clients are either returning after a gap or coming in for the first time. The consultation is for working out what you want, so you don't need to arrive with a plan. The room is yours and there's no rush.
Two piercers. One standard.
Appointment only. Clinical standards. New Zealand's only exclusive BVLA studio.
